Merciful,
Compassionate Healer
Jesus Yearns to Help You
by Pastor John Hamel
“And He [Jesus] preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out
devils. And there came a leper to Him, beseeching Him, and kneeling
down to Him, and saying unto Him, If Thou wilt, Thou canst make me
clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth His hand, and
touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou
clean. And as soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed
from him, and he was cleansed.” (Mark 1:39-42)
One day Jesus was preaching in Galilee and a very sick
man approached Him. The man was being consumed by leprosy, one of the
most devastating diseases of that time.
Jesus looked at this
suffering man and the Bible says He was “moved with compassion.”
The original Greek word for compassion actually means, “to
eagerly yearn.” It also means, “to have pity.”
Actually the
words “compassion” and “mercy” are used interchangeably in the New
Testament.
So when this suffering man approached Jesus, Jesus eagerly
yearned to help him. He had pity on the man and showed him great
mercy by healing him.
One evening I was
conducting a service for a Pastor friend in Oklahoma. I was
teaching the people about Jesus’ compassion and mercy when I suddenly
noticed the Pastor’s associate Minister behaving oddly.
This
man had
removed his glasses and was holding them over his head, looking at the
ceiling lights through them. This man's eye-glasses had possibly the thickest
lenses I had ever seen. It was difficult looking him in the eye to talk
to him, for his lenses made his eyes so tiny that it made my eyes water to
look at them.
Suddenly
he put his thick
glasses aside
and picked up his Bible. He drew it up close to his face and then
pushed
it far away again as he stared into it.
Picking his thick-lensed
glasses up again, he repeated the process of
holding them above his head and looking at the ceiling lights through them.
He
picked up his Bible again and went through the same steps of looking at it,
drawing it close to his face and then pushing it away.
He then began
to look all around the room without his glasses, squinting and staring at
people and objects as if he were seeing clearly for the first time.
This
Minister seemed completely unaware that I was trying to
conduct a service and he was being a total distraction. I began to
stare at him in the same way he was staring at his Bible and the people all
around him.
The thought then
occurred to me, “Did the Lord just heal this Brother’s eyesight before I even
had a chance to pray for folks?”
Sure enough, this Brother
asked if he could come up
and give a testimony. He proceeded to explain how just sitting there
believing what he was hearing resulted in a healing miracle in his
eyes. He told the congregation how he had worn those thick-lensed
glasses since he was a child - over forty years.
Through the proper
preaching and teaching of God’s precious Holy written Word, this Associate
Pastor realized that God, in His great mercy and compassion, willed for his
eyes to be made whole. He received revelation of God’s eager yearning to heal his
eyes and tapped into it.
With the revelation of God’s compassion came
the ability to release his faith for healing.
By releasing his faith
or “expectation” for healing, he activated the Laws of Contact and Transmission.
This simply means
that this man contacted God’s power with his faith;
the power of God was then transmitted back to him. He had worn those
thick glasses since childhood and he was now easily in his forties!
Without even praying for him, he was able to receive this healing miracle
by simply believing what he was hearing.
That’s how faith
comes. By hearing the Word properly taught. (Romans 10:17)
You can do
this. It will change your life. It changed his.
This
man left
his Ministry position with that Church to do the work of an Evangelist.
When
I saw him in a T.L. Osborn meeting sometime later, he was still seeing
without those glasses.
He
explained to me that he was building his
Ministry on this one miracle of healing.
He now goes out
telling people what God did for him He’ll do for them, too, if only they’ll
believe.
If
you have not done so, say, “Jesus, I
choose You as my Savior and Healer.” (Romans 10:13)
Now
tell Him, "Jesus, I believe in Your compassion. I believe You eagerly
yearn to heal me and I give You permission to do so. I give You my life.
Bless me and I'll be sure my world of influence hears all about it."
Things will stop
happening TO you and start happening FOR you now.
