Biblical Prosperity in Perspective 14

God Destines No One to Poverty

by Pastor John Hamel

“Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.” (Psalm 35:27)

We can see from this verse of Scripture that when God’s servants prosper, He is pleased.  We also can see from this Scripture that when God’s servants do not prosper, He is grieved.

Have you ever heard it said, “Some people are destined to be rich.  Others are destined to be poor.  I guess I’m just destined to be poor.”?  That is a lie that has been puked right up out of the bowels of Hell, if I may say so.  It is not possible that God has destined some to be rich and some to be poor.

The Bible reveals that God has slung into motion strict Spiritual Laws concerning poverty and prosperity.  Human beings make those laws work for or against them.  The Spiritual Laws of prosperity and poverty are as absolute as the Law of Gravity.  It is up to us to come to an understanding of these laws in order to use them to bring the lost to Christ.

I once watched a Preacher interview a wealthy Christian businessman on television.  Both of these men were in agreement that God destines some to have wealth and for the rest to struggle in poverty.

Of course, neither one of them had any Scripture to prove the foolishness of what they were espousing.  This wealthy businessman was arrogantly boasting of how beautiful his life was since he became prosperous.  He went on and on about himself and how he enjoys and deserves his prosperity.  He never mentioned one word about why money comes.  He just rambled on and on about how God did not desire to bless all people in the way God had blessed him.

This man’s reasoning was both unscriptural and selfish.  Some wealthy people choose to believe the way that he does because it “excuses” them from having to use their money properly.  It also places all the blame for the poverty in the world upon God, Who is guiltless.  This is what Satan wants.

Satan wants people to believe that only a small handful of individuals are to prosper.  He imposes this thinking upon the Body of Christ to stop them from praying for the finances to save the lost people of the world.  It is vital that we reject these false notions, unscriptural teachings and demonic, prideful lies.  It is vital that we reject poverty the way God rejects poverty.

Poverty Is a Vision Killer

“The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.” (Proverbs 10:15)

A more literal translation of the second half of this verse reads, “A needy man’s dreams are fractured by his poverty.”

Poverty is to be despised because God despises poverty.  God despises poverty because it fractures the dreams and visions of His Creation, the dreams and visions that He gives to them.

God gives His Creation dreams and visions to reach the lost people of the world and to live comfortably and respectfully.  God gives His Creation dreams and visions of their lives being a testimony of health and wealth that will draw people to the goodness of God.

Satan attempts to fracture those dreams with poverty.

Poverty is a hothouse where seeds of hopelessness, suicide, fear, anger and hatred of God grow and bloom.  Poverty causes people to live in fear that other less needy people will not respect them.  Poverty would cause anyone to question the goodness of God.  Poverty is an enemy like death, one that is to never be embraced.

Whenever God puts a big dream in someone’s heart to use his or her gifts and Anointings to win the world to Christ, Satan is challenged.  He moves immediately to kill that dream with poverty.  He tries to convince them that poverty would be a better route.  He tells them that the poorer they are, the holier they are and it is holiness that will win people to Jesus.  He lies in this way because he knows Ecclesiastes chapter nine better than most religiously brainwashed human beings do.

“Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.” (Ecclesiastes 9:16)

Satan knows that the Bible says that nobody will listen to the preaching of a poor man.  Satan knows that a poor man’s words are despised by all who hear him.  The impoverished preacher’s hearers think, “If you’re so bright, how come you ain’t got nothing?  If your God is worth serving, how come He doesn’t give you a better pair of shoes?”

That is Satan’s dream, to shut up Preachers by putting them in position to where nobody will listen to them.  He does it with poverty.

Our loving Father wants our lives to be a testimony of wealth and health.  That way when we set out to seek and to save the lost, destroying the works of Satan in the process, we will be heard and not scorned.  Poverty never empowered the Plan of Redemption.  Poverty has always counteracted the Plan of Redemption.

As a matter of fact, in these Last Days, Satan has sent his emissaries right into your community.  He’s raising up an “anti-prosperity cult” and he plans on fooling you with it.  His mantra is “The less you have the holier you are.”  Every time he says it, he’s spitting in God’s face and in yours.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Jesus said that it is the will of God for you to have Biblical prosperity in perspective.  He said Satan has come to convince you otherwise.  When we do not know what the Bible says, Satan usually has the upper hand.  This is why we must understand what the Bible says about the Laws of Poverty and the Laws of Prosperity.

The Laws of Poverty

Here are some of the key things Satan will use to pressure human beings to operate in the Laws of Poverty.  We will begin in Proverbs chapter 23.

“Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all day long.  For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.” (Verses 17-18)

The Holy Spirit said that we are to never envy the lifestyle of sinners.  We will end up drawn back into sin with them.  We are to honor and respect the Lord all day long.  There is a reason for this.

The reason is that respecting the Lord will keep our expectation, or our dreams, from being uprooted and dying.  To walk away from God to pursue a lifestyle of sin is to cut off your lifeline.  It is just a matter of time until tragedy and premature death overtake you.  This is what Satan wills for you.

Quite frankly, he does not care whether you go to Heaven or Hell as long as he can get you out of here and keep you from financing the Gospel.

“Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.  Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.” (Verses 19-21)

First, a word about the drunkard.  The word used here is actually “tipsy.”

Nowhere in Scripture is greatness or wealth every associated with individuals who live a tipsy lifestyle.  From Aaron to Samson to Solomon to Jesus to you, alcohol is forbidden in Scripture.  Jesus did not turn water into fermented wine in John chapter two.  That is a lie.

If you are willing to face the truth, you can click on “The Jesus Drank Wine Lie Exposed.  The Bible Expose You Need to Read.”  There you will discover that there are two kinds of wine in the Bible, fermented and unfermented.  If you are drinking the wrong one, you’re drinking liquid poverty.

Next, a word about the glutton.  This word literally means, “To be morally loose.  To shake as in the wind.”

Individuals who are blown by the wind of popular opinion and peer pressure are being blown over by the Laws of Poverty.  Casual sex, alcohol, unnecessary prescription drugs, casual street drugs, R-rated movies, Soap Operas, “necessary” little white lies, compromising on taxes, bringing rolls of bathroom tissue home from the office, etc., etc., are all things the devil attempts to use to hook your caboose to the Poverty Express.

Can you see this?  Poverty is not a blessing that means you are holy.  Poverty is a curse for boozers, immoral people, thieves and compromisers.

We also read in Proverbs 23 that drowsiness will dress you in rags.  The word “drowsiness” is actually “Sleepiness.  Laziness.”  Some Believers are of the opinion that they can avoid the tipsy, immoral compromising part but put their hand to absolutely nothing and still prosper.  That is not what the Bible teaches.  The Bible says that you will prosper in whatever you put your hand to. (Psalm 1:3)

You cannot pay tithes and offerings, lie around all day and ignore what God is telling you to do.  You absolutely must find God’s Plan for your life, what He has called you to do.  Then you must pursue it with patience, discipline, faithfulness and even temporary sacrifice if necessary.  This is particularly true for those who are called to Ministry.  There is a price to be paid and you must be willing to pay that price in order to step up higher in the things of the Spirit.

Poverty is a curse for tipsy, loose, lazy loafers who refuse to put their hand to anything.  Only Satan himself could put such a spin on this to where it turns into so-called “holiness.”  If poverty means you’re holy, then some of the holiest people in the world are drunk, immoral, lazy, lying, thieving loafers.  This is why the Bible calls Satan the “father of lies.” (John 8:44)

A Special Word about Rebellion

“Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honored.” (Proverbs 13:18)

Anyone who rebels against the Written Word of God and still expects to enjoy wealth has got an altitude problem.  Not just an attitude problem, but also an altitude problem.  By that I mean, you simply cannot live the low life and enjoy the benefits of the high life.  It is impossible to refuse to change the way you think, talk and behave and enjoy true Biblical prosperity.  You cannot ignore the correction and instruction of God’s Words and God’s Prophets and properly prosper.

It is foolish to believe that you can rebel against your parents, God’s marriage laws, God’s moral laws, civil authorities or your Pastor and enjoy the kind of prosperity we are studying in these lessons.  I will even go so far as to say, if you have a radar detector in your vehicle, you might want to rethink what you are doing.  Radar detectors are designed specifically for people who only want to obey the rules when someone is watching.

God put a radar detector in your soul when He made you.  It is called conscience.  Obeying your conscience will bring you to prosperity a whole lot more quickly than slowing down only when the radar detector indicates someone is watching.  God is always watching.

Some people do not like this kind of preaching.  They prefer leaders who will not talk about tithes, offerings, little white lies, hot toilet paper and radar detectors.  For some reason they actually prefer that vain type of preaching that leaves you so broke you cannot even afford to pay attention.

“He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.  A faithful man shall abound with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” (Proverbs 28:19-20)

Making haste to be rich solely for the sake of being rich makes one guilty.  Guilty of selfishness.  Guilty of despising the “Great Commission.”  Guilty of allowing people to go to Hell needlessly.

It is the will of God for His Family to abound with blessings and to have plenty.  Plenty to seek and save the lost first, to destroy the works of the devil second, and only then to live a life of abundance.

Satan is more conscious of the more than 3 billion people in this world who need salvation than most Christians are.  But that is changing.  It is also why he is laboring so diligently to convince Believers that poverty means you are holy, when the Bible says it is a curse for being a fool.  Now that is good preaching if I do say so myself.  Thank You, Holy Spirit.

Prayer: “Father, open my eyes to how You despise poverty.  Please give me revelation of how You see poverty.  Forgive me for any foolishness that I may have cooperated with.  Forgive me for anything I ever thought, said or did that counteracted financing Your Plan of Redemption.  I am so glad I can come to You about this.  You’re a good God, a loving Father.  I trust You and I want nothing more than for You to trust me with tremendous wealth in order to help You build a Family that will worship You forever.  Thank You for enlightening me.  In Jesus’ Name.”

Be blessed … John and Barbara Hamel
