Supernatural Biblical Prayer 6
How & When to Pray the Prayer of
Praise & Worship
by Pastor John Hamel
We have studied how and when to pray the Prayer of Faith, the Prayer of Commitment, the Prayer of Submission, the Prayer of Agreement and the Prayer of Unity.
In this lesson we will
study how and when to pray the Prayer of Praise and Worship.
Some people wrongly believe that they have
more troubles than anyone else. However, this could not be further
from the truth. Everybody encounters trouble in life. Satan is the source of all trouble and he hates all of
mankind. (John 10:10)
Man is the apex of God’s creation. Satan
hates God and cannot harm Him directly, so he lashes out at Him
indirectly. He does this by lashing out at God’s precious human
creation, all of God’s precious human creation. Satan has no
favorites that he loves to hate. He hates us all.
Some people allow God to use their troubles
to strengthen them and to cause them to be victorious. (Isaiah 41:10
Amplified Bible) Others allow Satan to use their troubles to further
weaken them and to ultimately destroy them.
Two individuals can
experience the same type of problem. One individual will use that
experience to go up and over, while the other uses it to
go down and under. It is all in how the
individual responds to it.
Praise
& Worship in the Old Testament
Hateful nations
banding together to destroy little Israel is nothing new. In Second
Chronicles chapter twenty, the Moabites and the Ammonites did it.
King Jehoshaphat proclaimed a national fast and determined to seek the Lord
in the matter. As a result, the Lord spoke through the Prophet Jahaziel, revealing the secret plans and hideout of the
Moabites and Ammonites.
The Lord also told Israel to go out against
their enemies and not be afraid because He would do the
fighting for them. All they had to do was offer praise and worship
and He would whip up on their enemies for them. Everyone fell on
their faces, worshipping God for His supernatural revelation, guidance and
promise of protection.
The next morning, Jehoshaphat stood up
before the people, reminding them of the importance of trusting in the word
of the Prophet. He then led them out against their enemies, singing
and praising the Lord. How absolutely foolish they must have looked
to the Moabites and Ammonites. These were bands of giants, half-human
and half-fallen angel. (Genesis 6:1-6)
Along came these little people, singing and praising God as if they were
deranged. How these mighty giants must have roared with laughter, but
not for long.
“And they rose early in the morning, … Jehoshaphat stood and said …Believe in the
Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall
ye prosper. …he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should
praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to
say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for
ever. And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come
against Judah; and they were
smitten. …every one helped to destroy another. [They were attacked with
mania and actually began killing one another.]”
“And when Judah came toward the
watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold,
they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped. And when
Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found
among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious
jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry
away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.”
(2Chronicles 20:20-25)
Israel was outnumbered
and they knew it. Jehoshaphat turned to God for the solution.
Jehoshaphat knew what a lot of people still don’t know today. He knew
that God is never your problem. God
is always your solution. The Most High God told him, through the
Prophet, “You do a little thing, stay out of fear and pray the Prayer of
Praise and Worship. I’ll do a big thing and rid you of these pesky
little giants.”
Israel obeyed. They
stayed out of fear. They prayed the Prayer of Praise and
Worship. The end result was the defeat of their enemies and so much
spoil recovered that it took them three days to gather it all up.
Praise
& Worship in the New Testament
The Apostle Paul and his preaching buddy,
Silas, got themselves into big trouble one day. A young girl
possessed of a demon spirit had been following them for days, taunting and
irritating them.
Finally, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Paul and
he cast the unclean spirit right out of her. That would have been all
well and good under “ordinary” circumstances.
However, the spirit in
this girl enabled her to tell people their “fortunes” to a limited
degree. There were men who were controlling her and profiting from
her demonic fortune-telling abilities. They were absolutely incensed
by Paul setting her free, thereby stripping them of their cruel
livelihood. They in turn falsely accused Paul and Silas
to the authorities, had them severely beaten and placed in stocks in the
town dungeon.
Paul and Silas knew exactly what to do to turn this
test into a powerful test-imony. They knew
exactly what it was going to take to turn this mess into a mess-age.
“And at midnight Paul and Silas
prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And
suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the
prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every
one's bands were loosed.” (Acts 16:25,26)
Once again a couple of hurting human beings
did a little thing and prayed the Prayer of Praise and Worship.
Almighty God did a big thing and busted them out of
their dark, dank prison of despair.
The Bible says that God is no
respecter of persons. (Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11) The Prayer of Praise
and Worship will bust you right out of your prison of despair, as well.
Guidance
Comes Thru the Prayer of Praise & Worship
Now there were in
the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas,
and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of
Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up
with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord,
and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work
whereunto I have called them.” (Acts 13:1,2)
Paul and Barnabas already knew what the
work was to which God had called them. However, they were waiting for
confirmation as to the when and the how they were to do it. (Isaiah
55:8,9)
So they got together with some other Teachers and Prophets of the Lord. They
fasted a little and ministered to the Lord through the Prayer of Praise and
Worship. Lo and behold, right in the middle of their meeting, the
Holy Spirit spoke up through one of the other Brothers, decreeing that this
was the time for them to do what was already in their hearts.
This
was just the confirmation they were needing.
Do you need to hear from God? Do what
these Believers did. They did not pray the Prayer of Faith, the
Prayer of Submission or the Prayer of Commitment. They ministered to
the Lord through the Prayer of Praise and Worship and the Lord spoke to
them right in the midst of it.
God made man for His own pleasure. He
craves our love, our praise and our worship. If you have been
perpetually petitioning God to help you or to talk to you, stop in your
tracks and begin to praise Him for all He has already done for you. (Psalm
103:1-5)
Begin to worship Him for His Holiness, goodness, integrity
and faithfulness. He will speak to you and He will deliver you.
This is what Jehoshaphat and all of Israel did in their hour
of need.
This is what Paul and Silas did in their midnight hour.
This is what Paul resorted to
again along with Barnabas and other Prophets and Teachers who knew how to
get a hold of Heaven.
Man is a natural born power seeker.
God made all of humanity to be that way. Actually, prayer is nothing
more or less than seeking power with God.
Do you want power with God?
You will find it through the Prayer of Praise and Worship.
Lift your hands
and your voice to God right now and He will lift you out of your despair.
Be Blessed ...
