Enough Is
Enough
The Price Has Been Paid
by Pastor John Hamel
“For
Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he
might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by
the Spirit:” (1Peter 3:18)
The
Bible says that Christ has suffered “once” for sins, meaning that once was
enough. If Holy God predetermined that the penalty of three days in Hell was enough to pay for our sins, then ENOUGH IS
ENOUGH. That’s the price the Bible says Jesus paid to wipe away our
sins. (Matthew 12:40)
Some people believe they must do “penance”
in order to receive forgiveness for sin or answer to prayer.
I know a
man who once traveled to a certain cathedral in Canada. There he
literally climbed the steep granite stairs on bloodied knees.
He heard miracles were happening there and
was hoping that by doing so, God would have mercy and heal his sick
sons.
He did not know that God our Father promised in the Bible to
bring healing to his sons through the simple Prayer of Faith.
“Is any sick among you? let him call
for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him
with oil in the name of the Lord: And the PRAYER OF FAITH shall save
the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins,
they shall be forgiven him.” (James 5:14-15)
One day while studying for some services I
was conducting in Tulsa,
Oklahoma, I was impressed
to set my studies aside.
I turned on the television and tuned in to a
local news station.
To my utter horror I suddenly realized that
I was watching a “live” broadcast. A man was sitting on the street,
dousing himself with gasoline as the news cameras rolled. He then lit
a match and instantly burst into flames before my very eyes.
Some
compassionate soul dove upon him with some sort of a cloth, extinguishing
the flames. It was not before the man severely burned himself,
however!
As he lay on the ground, severely burned, I
heard a voice ask him, “Why did you do it? Why did you do it?”
The burned man answered, “To atone for my sins.”
My heart
broke. I wanted to weep as I thought, “Christ has suffered once and
ONCE IS ENOUGH.”
It’s not possible for a human being to go “back to the cross,” so to speak, and re-do what Jesus has
done. It’s not possible and it’s not necessary.
Jesus’ one time
suffering was enough, more than enough to bring us back home safely to
God.
All one must do now to receive God’s
blessing and favor is to say, “Jesus, You’re my choice.
I accept what You’ve already suffered in my place. Once is enough!”
(Romans 10:13)
Once you have uttered those simple words,
“Jesus, You’re my choice,” sit back and trust in the goodness of
Almighty God.
He’s promised to save you and your loved
ones. (Acts 16:31)
He’s
promised to heal you and your loved ones. (1Peter 2:24)
He’s
promised to meet every other need, even with a miracle if you need one. (Philippians 4:19;
Hebrews 13:8)
So when the thought comes to mind that you
just might need to do penance or to "earn"
God’s forgiveness and help, stop yourself and boldly declare, “ENOUGH IS
ENOUGH! I believe it is as God has spoken!”
