The
Reality of Angels
Part
One
by Pastor John Hamel
We are involved in a
concise but comprehensive study of the subject of Angelology.
Angels have become
increasingly more popular in recent years.
However, much of the teaching on angels available is not
Biblically-based. It is based on
mythology. Much of it is based
on fallen man’s ideas of what they think angels should be.
Much of it is religious and cannot be supported from Scripture.
Our study, on the
other hand, is based entirely on Scripture.
It is amazing the number of Christians who are seriously lacking
knowledge of the supernatural beings that are even more powerful than man -
the angels of God. They are lacking
knowledge because they do not look to the Bible as their primary source of
information.
The Bible is the only source Book that can be relied upon concerning
the study of angels.
“But to which of
the angels said he at any times, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine
enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to
minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” (Hebrews 1:13-14)
Angels are spirits
sent into the Earth to minister on behalf of God’s human creation.
We are about to see an escalation of angelic activity in the Earth,
greater than any other time in human history.
As we approach the last days, angelic activity increases.
As a matter of fact, there is more angelic activity in Revelation,
the Book of the Last Days, than in any other book of the Bible.
The extent of
Angelology in Scripture is amazing. It
begins in the very first book of the Bible where God placed an angel with a
flaming sword at the entryway to the Garden of Eden to keep man from eating
from the Tree of Life. Had he done so, he would have lived in his
fallen condition forever. (Genesis 3:24)
It ends in Revelation, the last book of the Bible.
As a matter of fact,
one day the realm of time as we know it will cease and an angel will stand
up and declare it. The Apostle
John heard him do so. In Revelation
chapter 10, verses 5 and 6, John said he saw an angel stand upon the sea,
lifting his hand towards Heaven, decreeing that there should be time no
longer. At that moment, we will
begin to live in God’s realm where there is no time as we know it.
This
lesson will be a quick over-view of
the subject of Angelology to emphasize “The Reality of Angels.”
We will go into greater detail on most everything we cover in this
lesson in later lessons.
The Hebrew word for
"angel" is “Malak.” It
means “One who is dispatched as an ambassador.”
The Greek word for "angel" is “Angelos.”
It means “One who brings good tidings.”
Angels are sent forth from the presence of God as His messengers.
They are His telecommunications experts created to communicate to and
minister for human beings.
Angels Work Extensively in the Physical Realm
Angels came to bring
judgment upon Sodom and Gomorrah, the world capital of immorality in its
day.
They were so stunning in appearance that the men of Sodom and
Gomorrah wanted to have sexual relations with them and tried to break into
Lot’s house in order to do so. The
angels executed judgment upon the sodomites.
Angels often execute judgment on behalf of the Most High God.
“The men (angels) put forth
their hand, pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. And they
smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small
and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.” (Genesis
19:10-11)
Angels will actually
execute judgment upon the entire Earth in the last days.
Also
in his vision, John saw seven angels holding seven plagues to be cast
upon the Earth, sea, rivers, sun, the Beast, the Euphrates and in the air.
(Revelation 15:1)
So we
see angels are entrusted by God with tremendous judging power.
Angels Are Messengers of Extreme Intellectual Ability
The wise woman of
Tekoah said something very interesting to King David.
“Then
thine handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable:
for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad:
therefore the Lord thy God will be with thee. … To fetch about this form
of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise,
according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in
the earth.” (2 Samuel 14:17,20)
Here the wise woman,
speaking by the Spirit of God, said that angels surely discern between good
and bad, and that they have wisdom to know all things that are in the Earth.
Now, they do not know all things.
Only God is omniscient, but they are tremendously, tremendously
informed concerning all the affairs of men in the Earth and they even ride
back and forth from Heaven to Earth on horseback reporting what
they learn back to God.
We will see this in the lesson, "The Power of Angels, Part
One."
Angels can even
interpret dreams and visions such as Gabriel did for Daniel.
Daniel had a vision of Last Day kingdoms that perplexed him.
God personally sent Gabriel to help Daniel understand his vision. Gabriel
said, “Behold, I will make thee to know what shall be in the last end of
the indignation.” (Daniel 8:16-19)
This
is the very same Gabriel who appeared to Mary in Luke chapter one and told
her she would give birth to the Savior of the world.
These two events occurred hundreds of years apart.
Angels Are Tremendous Warriors of Spiritual Battle
The entire Syrian Army came out after one little preacher named
Elisha who kept exposing the whereabouts of the Syrian Army to
Israel. Elisha’s assistant,
Gehazi, panicked when they arrived. But
not Elisha. He knew the Syrian
Army was outnumbered by the angels of God and said so.
“And he answered,
Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And
Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.
And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the
mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” (2
Kings 6:16-17)
Elisha
knew the mountain was full of angels. He prayed and through an
operation of the "Discerning
of Spirits" the Lord allowed Gehazi to see them.
“Full” means
“all there is room for.” These
spirit horses and chariots were driven by the angels of God as we will see
later in our studies. For now,
you need to know that there are more angels who are for you than any number
of men or demons who may join forces against you.
Angels Possess Supernatural Strength
“Bless the Lord, ye
his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening
unto the voice of his word.” (Psalm 103:20)
No man, not even
Samson, possesses the strength of angels.
Paul told the
Thessalonians that Jesus shall be revealed from Heaven with His mighty angels
and flaming fire, taking vengeance on those who have rejected the Gospel of
Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:7)
No
one will escape the power and physical strength of God's angels in that day.
In his revelation,
John saw one angel come down from Heaven with such great power that the
entire Earth was lighted with his glory. There
is so much to see and know about angels.
There are manifestations of angels coming in the immediate future
that we have not dreamed of.
No one and no thing
is stronger than God’s angels except for the Trinity.
One angel, in one night’s time, single-handedly killed 185,000 of
Israel’s enemies. (Isaiah 37:36)
All Christians should take comfort knowing the mighty angels of God work for
them.
"For He will
give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and
preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]." (Psalm
91:11, Amplified)
Daniel was falsely
accused and thrown into the lions den. King Darius came to check on him
the next morning, hoping God had protected him. Darius shouted into
the den, "Daniel, has your God protected you?" Daniel
shouted back to King Darius from down in the lions den, “My God hath sent his angel and
has shut the lions’ mouths.” (Daniel 6:22)
Angels
have been observed lifting automobiles off of people, keeping stalled
aircraft suspended in midair and rolling a monstrous stone from Jesus' grave,
along with many other feats of supernatural strength.
Angels Are Supernatural Ministers to God’s Human Creation
“Bless the Lord, ye
his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening
unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye
ministers of his, that do his pleasure.” (Psalm 103:20-21)
Notice the angels
hearken to the voice of God's Word.
Who gives voice to God’s Word in
this Earth?
Believers do.
When Believers speak according to the Word of God, angels listen.
Do
you need protection? Call on
the angels in Jesus’ Name. Do
you need provision? Call on
your angels in
Jesus’ Name.
Are
you concerned about
your family? Commission the
angels to accompany, preserve and defend them. You
are not powerless and you are not alone in this life.
God has assigned specific angels to you. You have no less than two Guardian
angels.
“He gives His angels charge over you in all your ways, to bear you
up …” (Psalm 91:11-12)
Angels Were Created by the Lord Jesus Christ
“Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. ... Let them
praise the name of the Lord: for he commanded, and they were created.”
(Psalm 148:2, 5)
Angels were created to minister to man before his fall in the Garden, during
the consequences of his fall and now since man’s redemption.
Colossians 1:16
reveals that all things were created by Jesus whether in Heaven or in Earth,
whether visible or invisible. This
means Jesus was God’s direct Agent in the creation of angels.
Although invisible to us, unless God decides otherwise through an
operation called Discerning
of Spirits, they are always visible in their own realm.
Angels have bodies made of
an higher materiality than human bodies which is why they can pass through
doors and walls and physical objects in this realm.
Although mostly invisible in this realm, they can become visible.
I speak experientially having had multiple angelic visitations.
God created them and I have seen them.
You could have angelic visitations, too, if God decides you need
them.
However, it is important that we never pray to see angels for
Satan will gladly accommodate and deceive us.
See
the lesson "Warnings
Concerning Angelic Visitations."
God’s Angels Are Innumerable
In Daniel’s vision
of the four great beasts, symbolizing four great kingdoms, he saw God,
the Ancient of Days, sitting upon His Throne. His garments were as
white as snow. His hair was as white as wool. There were flames
all about the Throne. There were multiplied thousands and thousands,
even millions of angels surrounding Him.
“A fiery stream
issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto
him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was
set, and the books were opened.” (Daniel 7:10)
By
putting the pencil to
this and doing the math, you will come up with no less than 104 million angels
ministering before the Throne of God alone.
They stay there fulltime worshipping God.
Imagine, the number of angels who stay before the Throne of God, worshipping
Him in His holiness is greater than the entire population of Mexico.
This does not count the angels who go back and forth from the Throne,
ministering to God’s human creation.
This is why on the
night Jesus was born the entire heavens were filled with angels shouting,
“Glory to God in the highest and on Earth, peace and goodwill toward
man.” (Luke 2:13-14)
The sky was full of angels as far as the human eye could
possibly see.
They were cheering that the Son of God Whom they had worshipped in Heaven
from Eternity past actually made it into
the Earth in the form of a baby
through the legal door of a woman's
womb.
This is also why Paul
said, “We have come to the City of the Living God, the Heavenly Jerusalem
and to an innumerable company of angels.” (Hebrews 12:22)
Paul
said there is no end to the
number of angels created by God. You
will not figure that out any more than you will figure out where God came
from.
Just be thankful it is
true.
Angels Are Holy
“Whosoever
therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and
sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he
cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38)
The word “holy”
means “sacred, pure, blameless, consecrated and undefiled.”
This
means angels reject sin. They
live clean and obey God's Word. This
is what qualifies them to go in and out of the presence of God on your
behalf.
The angels who refused to
live clean and obey the Word were cast out with Satan.
(Revelation 12:9) More
about them in the lesson, "Satan's
Kingdom. Satan's Fall."
Keep in mind, just
because angels are holy does not mean they are to be worshipped.
Paul forbad worshipping angels in Colossians 2:18.
We will study more about that in the next lesson, "The Reality
of Angels, Part Two."
Angels Work
Extensively in the Physical Realm.
Angels Are Messengers of Extreme Intellectual Ability.
Angels Are Tremendous Warriors.
Angels Possess Supernatural Strength to Perform Physical Feats.
Angels Perform Supernatural Ministry on Behalf of Man.
Angels Were Created by Jesus Christ.
Angels Are Innumerable.
Angels Are Holy.
You are never alone.
God's angels are always with you.
Although the Bible forbids
worshipping angels, it is within your jurisdiction to speak
to your angels, telling them what it is you need them to do for
you.
When you speak to your angels, keep it Scriptural and respectful and use the Name of Jesus.
They eagerly yearn to
please God by helping you.

blessed ... John and Barbara Hamel
