Putting
Fear On the Run
With One of My
Favorite Verses of Scripture
by Barbara Hamel
“For God has not
given us a spirit of fear, but of [Holy Spirit dunamis] power and of [God's
unfailing agape] love and of a [the] sound mind [of Christ].” (2 Timothy 1:7)
Since childhood
this has been one of my favorite verses of Scripture. Everyone struggles
with fear in one way or another. The most important thing to know
about fear is that God’s not the one passing it out.
If the Bible
says He’s not passing out fear, then who is? Satan. That’s
who.
Satan is passing
out fear and hoping you’ll just accept it – no questions asked. He
wants to hook you with fear. Why? Because, as Jesus said, he is
the thief who came to steal, to kill and to destroy. (John 10:10)
He’s out to steal your peace. He’s out to kill your dreams.
He’s out to destroy your hope for a better life, a happy, loving family, a
healthy body, joyful relationships and a reason for living.
So, what do you do
when fear comes to you? You resist it. You say “No” to
fear. You refuse to sign for it and accept it. You say right
out loud, “No way, Satan. I don’t receive
your fear. You can’t fool me. I resist you and your spirit of
fear in Jesus’ Name.” (James 4:7)
Once you say a loud
“No” to fear, open your mouth and say a loud “Yes” to God’s
power. God is offering you power over fear, Satan and all
the rotten plans he has for you. He gives you this power through the
Person of the Holy Spirit who indwells every Believer. (Luke 10:19)
As a matter of
fact, everything Jesus Himself did, He did by the power of the Holy
Spirit.
“How God anointed
Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power; who went about doing
good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with
him.” (Acts 10:38)
The same Holy
Spirit power that enabled Jesus to run the devil out of people’s lives is available to you.
“But ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you...” (Acts 1:8)
Not only is God
offering you power over Satan and his cruel plans, God is offering you His
love. This is very important for all of us to understand.
People who do not know how much God loves them have no confidence.
They have no confidence that God will back them up
when they resist Satan and his spirit of fear.
“There is no fear
in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear hath torment...” (1John
4:18)
Perfect
love is a reference to God’s perfect love for you. When
you have confidence in how perfectly God loves you, you will never fear
anyone or anything again. When you have confidence that God loves
you, no matter how bad, sad, ugly or horrible the past has been, you will
never back down from the devil again.
And there’s
more. Not only does God pour His perfect love UPON you, He pours His
perfect love WITHIN you.
“...the love of God
is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
(Romans 5:5)
Because God’s
perfect love has been shed abroad in your heart, you can supernaturally
forgive all who have ever wronged you for any reason. This results in
tremendous power for you. The Bible says that faith works by love.
(Galatians 5:6) When you refuse to hold grudges, your faith becomes
tremendously effective. It’s a Spiritual Law. Faith works by
love and it will work every time.
Sound impossible?
To forgive, I mean? Simply say, “Father, let Your forgiveness flow
through me to (person’s name), in Jesus’ Name.” You will be
surprised by what happens. God’s Word guarantees it will be good.
(James 1:17)
Fear. It always comes from Satan. God has
given you power over it. Resist it in Jesus’ Name. God, in His perfect
love for you, will back you up every time.
Forgive.
Simply ask God to help you if forgiving is a problem. He’s not angry. He wants to help you. He’s waiting for you to ask.
The wonderful end
result will be soundness of mind. Soundness of mind because fear is
tormenting and perfect love casts out that fear. (1John 4:18)
When the fear goes, the torment
goes with it. This is what the Bible refers to as “...the mind of
Christ.” (1Corinthians 2:16)
Power, love and a
sound mind can all be yours today.
It all starts by saying, “Jesus, You’re my choice.”
(Romans 10:13)
That’s when Satan realizes that he’s the one in
trouble now, not you.
That’s when you
really start putting fear on the run.
