Jesus,
Miracles & Children
A Special Love for
His Little Lambs
by Pastor John Hamel
“And they brought
unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw
it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said,
Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is
the kingdom of God. Verily I
say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child
shall in no wise enter therein.” (Luke 18:15-17)
Jesus has a
tremendous love for children and is as concerned about them as He is any
adult man or woman. Jesus was always greatly displeased when His
disciples treated children like dirty little imps that were to be kept far
from Him. Jesus never hesitated to touch and hold a child, love a
child or to perform a miracle on behalf of a child.
We are going to
look at just some of the miracles that Jesus performed on behalf of
children. We want you to be encouraged and to know that God’s miraculous power is available to your
children today, no matter what they may be going through. Allow me to
reiterate. No matter what they may be going through.
Jesus
Delivered a Demon-Possessed Boy
“And when they were
come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to
him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick,
and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Then
Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long
shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the
devil; and he departed out of him: and THE CHILD WAS CURED from that very
hour.” (Matthew 17:14-18)
The word “lunatic”
actually means “moonstruck.” The demons that were tormenting this
child would manifest in a greater way during a full moon or during changes
in the moon. They would do this to deliberately mislead people into
believing that the boy’s problem was related to the moon and not demon
powers. Hence the term “lunatick.” As
long as people believed this way, the demons could possess him
unhampered.
This is still true
today but Jesus sees right through that mess and goes right after the demons. Jesus knew it was a spiritual problem, not
an astronomical problem.
Actually the spirit
in the child was a spirit of suicide. It kept trying to kill
him by pressing him to drown himself or to burn himself to death. As
great as this concentration of evil was, it was no match for Jesus.
He simply cast it out, the boy was cured, the problem was solved and Jesus
moved on to the next victory.
Jesus
Healed a Nobleman's Sick Little Boy
“So Jesus came again
into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there
was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he
heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him,
and besought him that he would come down, and heal
his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him,
Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not
believe. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir,
come down ere MY CHILD die.
"Jesus saith
unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man
believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his
way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told
him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they
said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So
the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the
which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth:
and himself believed, and his whole house.” (John 4:46-53)
It is my belief
that this man’s child was not instantly healed. The narrative
says that when Jesus spoke the word, the child’s fever broke and his
strength began to return.
Sometimes healing is instant.
Sometimes it is more of a recovery process. Either way, if you will
keep on trusting God, expecting His help, He will move on behalf of your
children whenever you give Him access in Jesus’ Name.
Jesus
Raised One Man's Little Girl from the Dead
“And, behold, there
cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus
by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him
greatly, saying, MY LITTLE DAUGHTER lieth at the
point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her,
that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him;
and much people followed him, and thronged him. …While he
yet spake, there came from the ruler of the
synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
"As soon as
Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith
unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only
believe. And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the
synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that
wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye
this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
"But when
he had put them all out, he taketh the father and
the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he
took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha
cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say
unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for
SHE WAS OF THE AGE OF TWELVE YEARS. And they were astonished with a great
astonishment.” (Mark 5:22-24,35,36,38-42)
Notice how Jesus
told the laughers and scorners to leave. Their unbelief grieved the Holy Spirit within
Him, hindering His ability.
It is important to separate yourself from
all negative voices if you are believing God for a
miracle concerning your children. Negative voices promote fear.
Fear is the opposite of faith. You cannot believe
Jesus’ command to Jairus to “be not afraid, only
believe” if you are surrounded with people telling you what God will not
do.
Jairus and his wife stayed cool, clear
headed and panic free. They watched what they
said and heard.
As a result, God’s power flowed into their
youngster and she was raised up. If you will do what they did, you
will get what they got! Do not forget the importance of forgiving
anyone who has wronged you, too. (Mark 11:25,26)
Jesus
Also Raised a Widow's Son from the Dead
“And it came to
pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain;
and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he
came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was A DEAD MAN carried
out, THE ONLY SON OF HIS MOTHER, and she was a widow: and much people of
the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep
not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood
still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to
speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on
all: and they glorified God, saying, That a
great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.”
(Luke 7:11-16)
Although the Bible
reveals this individual was apparently a grown man, he was still his
mother’s child. Our children never get so big that our faith will not
work for them. Keep one thing in mind though.
Whenever you are
desirous of something from God, God is desirous of something from
you. Notice that everyone glorified God for the miracle that was
performed. This is what God was wanting.
In every case that
we looked at in this study, the parents of the children did something to
move God to respond to them. The father of the lunatic boy kneeled
and called Jesus, “Lord”, asking for mercy. Are you willing to do the
same?
The nobleman believed
that God’s power entered into his boy even though he was not instantly
healed, and the boy began to get better. Are you willing to believe
that God’s power enters into your child at the moment you pray?
Jairus and his wife
refused to get into fear by listening to negative voices, even when things
could not have gotten worse. Are you willing to refuse to yield to
the spirit of fear even though it appears that things could not possibly be
worse?
The widow of Nain and all of her loved ones gave God the glory once
their miracle was performed. Are you willing to give God the glory
once your miracle is manifested? Better yet, are you willing to give God the glory now, by faith, even
before your miracle manifests?
Anyone who will
take the same steps of faith these parents took will receive the same
supernatural results they received.
Have you made
Jesus, the Miracle Worker, the Lord and Savior of your life? Just
say, “Jesus, You’re my choice” and you’ll become a member of God’s Forever
Family. (Romans 10:13) That makes all the family benefits available
to you, 24 and 7.

Children & Family Bible Prayers
Heavenly
Father, I bring my entire household to You, including my in-laws, and I
thank You that You hear me when I pray. Because I know You hear me, I know
that I have the following petitions which I desire of You. (1 John
5:14-15) Because You have magnified Your Word even above Your Name, I can
know of a surety that You are honoring Your Word even now as I remind You
of it. You are answering me this very day and strengthening me with
strength in my heart. (Psalm 138:2-3)
Thank
You, Father, that You cause us to dwell in safety.
We live and sleep peacefully. (Psalm 4:8)
You,
Lord, defend us in every way. We love You. We are joyful in You and we are

You
have given Your angels charge over us and they keep us in all of our ways.
(Psalm 91:11)
Father,
we thank You that You give us wisdom, knowledge and understanding in all
things. (Proverbs 2:6)
We
always find favor and good understanding with both God and man. (Proverbs
3:4)
All
of our children are taught of the Lord and great is their peace. In the
righteousness of Christ we are established. (Isaiah 54:13-14)
No
weapon formed against us will prosper. Every tongue that rises against us
falsely we prove to be wrong. (Isaiah 54:17)
We
hear the voice of the Good Shepherd and the voice of a stranger we will
not follow. We
know the difference between God’s voice and Satan’s voice. (John
10:4-5)
Your
Word grows mightily within us and prevails both in us and through us.
(Acts 19:20)
We
do not stagger at the promises of God through unbelief, but rather we are
strong in faith, giving Glory to You, Father. What You have promised You
are now performing. (Romans 4:20-21)
We
are led by the Spirit of God because we are the family of God. The Holy
Spirit bears witness with our spirits as to what we are and are not to do.
(Romans 8:14,16)
Thank
You for sending Gospel laborers to every member of our households. When
our family members hear the Gospel properly preached, they are responsive
and willing to comply with what they hear. I claim the salvation of every
member of our households. (Romans 10:9-15)
In
Jesus’ Name I forbid Satan and demon spirits to blind the eyes of our
households concerning the glorious Gospel of Christ. The Gospel is not
hidden to our families. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
Christ
is our Redeemer. He has freed us from the Curse of the Law of Sin and
Death. Sickness,
disease, poverty, confusion and failure have no place in us, for the
blessings of Abraham have come upon us in abundance.
We are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to Your Covenant of
promise, provision and protection with him. (Galatians 3:13-14, 29)
Thank
You, Father, for putting it in each of our hearts to do Your will and for
helping us to do it. (Philippians 2:13)
We
do not have a spirit of fear.
Rather, we have power, love and soundness of mind. Fear has no
place in us. You
have saved us and called us with an holy calling according to Your purpose
and grace in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 1:7, 9)
Thank
You that You deliver us from every evil work, including terrorists and
terrorism, overthrowing and thwarting
every plan of Satan against us in Jesus’ Name.
You preserve us and deliver us safely to Your Heavenly Kingdom. For
this we give You glory. (2 Timothy 4:18)
Because
we desire the strong meat of Your Word, we are skillful in the Word.
Our senses are exercised and we are fully able to discern between
good and evil. (Hebrews 5:12-14)
We
are free of covetousness, content with what we have, although You are
increasing us. You are our Helper and we never fear what man might do to
us. (Hebrews 13:5-6)
Every
one of us is quick to hear and slow to speak. We are doers of the Word and
not hearers only. (James 1:19, 22)
We
are Your obedient children. We do not fashion ourselves according to the
world in ignorance or rebellion. Because You are holy, we are holy in
every manner of life. (1 Peter 1:14-16)
We
desire the sincere milk of Your Word and we are growing in knowledge of
it. (1 Peter 2:2)
We
humble ourselves under Your mighty hand God, casting all of our cares
upon You. You,
Father, exalt us in Your time and for Your glory.
We resist Satan, steadfast in the faith and he obeys us, in Jesus'
Strong Name. (1Peter
5:6-9)
We
continually grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Master Jesus. (2
Peter 3:18)
We
walk in the light as Jesus is in the light and we have peaceful fellowship
with one another. The
Blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. We immediately confess sin when
we stumble and You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:7, 9)
We
do not love the world or the things that are in the world.
We love You, Father, and we do the will of God all the days of our
lives. (1 John 2:15-17)
